Three-time Olympian from Morocco.
“I am a very driven person and always give 100%. If a competition was important, I wanted to make it 200%. As a result, I became more impulsive in my riding and started reacting to my horse before anything had actually happened. This often led to miscommunication.
Before the Olympic Games in London, I started working with Sanne. I discovered that for optimal performance I actually needed to become calmer. I learned how to do that, and I learned to focus much more on positive thoughts and on the right interaction with my horse.
By now I have a highly structured preparation. I make extensive use of visualization, going through my test step by step. If I feel myself getting too tense during warm-up, I take a time-out and do my breathing exercises, which gives me more mental control.
The pressure was also very high at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. In moments like that, you automatically fall back into your old pitfalls. It helped enormously to be able to use the mental skills from Sanne’s method and to have short online sessions with her to polish the final details. That gave me the confidence to ride into the main arena.”
